Functional Capacity Evaluation
The purpose of this evaluation is to determine an individual's physical capacity, including his/her sustainable functional abilities. HealthWorks offers Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) testing.
The FCE provides a comprehensive, objective assessment of the person's body function and safe physical abilities and determines their safe maximal level of function. It consists of a review of the person’s medical and occupational history, a musculoskeletal examination and a series of functional tests, all conducted by a qualified practitioner such as a chiropractor, kinesiologist, occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Various types of functional assessments are available, from general assessment to a job-specific pre-placement functional assessment.

Work Site Assessment/Job Site Assessment

The assessment generally includes an ergonomic analysis and a physical demands analysis to effectively maximize the productivity of an employee. Recommendations generally entail modifications to the equipment or workstation, changes to the worker’s habits and assistive devices. A work site assessment is often performed to assist in return to work planning by matching an employee’s abilities to the job demands and determining reasonable accommodations or modifications in order to return the person safely to work. Pre-Employment Assessments/Screening
You hire an employee and two weeks later they have filed for a WSIB claim which on average can cost your company $15,000. Why take the risk? HealthWorks understands that in this marketplace it is of the utmost importance to hire the best possible employees. A pre-employment screening program serves three important purposes:
- to identify those who are not capable of performing the job being offered;
- to identify those who are at risk of injury or illness if placed in the job;
- to identify those who are fit to perform the work.
HealthWorks offers a number of different types of pre-employment/post-offer assessments. The assessment can include a medical assessment completed by a physician or nurse, a functional assessment completed by a qualified health professional such as a chiropractor, physiotherapist, occupational therapist or kinesiologist. Assessments can be customized based on a physical/mental demands analysis of the job and they employer can give us a list of specific tests to perform such as drug screening, vision test, etc. It is our mission at HealthWorks to ensure that you are able to create the best team for your organization possible.

An in-home assessment is performed at the residence of an individual to identify pre-injury activities of daily living, including personal care, housekeeping, home maintenance, transportation and community management. This assessment allows a health professional such as a chiropractor or occupational therapist to evaluate the claimant’s ability to meet functional requirements and make recommendations related to safety concerns, home layout modifications, assistive devices or external assistance. The purpose of this assessment is to help the individual return to their regular activities of daily living in the shortest amount of time. In many instances activities at home can significantly delay the recovery of an individual.
