UNWANTED HAIR?
The concept of hair removal through laser technology has been a debated topic since its introduction 30 years ago and is slowly gaining acceptance. Excessive hair growth in unwanted areas are usually a result of endocrine disease, heredity and/or drug therapy, and falls into three categories: hirsutism, hypertrichosis and aesthetics.

Hirsutism is unique in females. It is defined by excessive hair growth in a male pattern distribution, i.e. mainly facial hair in the beard and/or upper lip. Hypertrichosis is defined as excessive hair in a normal distribution or in abnormal locations with genetic or ethnic origin. Aesthetics in this context, pertains to unwanted hair affecting one’s beauty or appearance. In any case, the presence of undesirable hair presents a challenge for which laser hair removal can prove to be an effective solution.

Hair revolves through three phases of growth: anagen, catagen and telogen. It is only during the growth phase, anagen, that hair reacts to laser light. The goal in hair removal is for laser light to penetrate to the depth of the hair follicle during the anagen phase to achieve long-term results.

ABOUT OUR LASER
The Aurora Laser ™ uses the best technology currently available for hair removal, offering outstanding results for a variety of skin tones. The solid-state infrared system produces laser pulses with a 1064 nm wavelength for dermatology use. The laser treatment is based on the principle of Radio Frequency and Intense Pulsed Light technology. The Aurora laser will safely and effectively target hair follicles with a minimum of pain, inconvenience and side effects.

The laser beam penetrates your skin and absorbs into the hair follicle residing under the skin surface. The laser energy destroys the follicle with the heat and conductivity that it generates. Because the laser beam is large in diameter, it affects a number of hairs simultaneously. The characteristics of the laser pulse are carefully selected for each patient’s comfort and efficacy depending on your skin tone, hair type and location.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Once the treatment is complete, you will be free to return to your normal routine immediately. Some patients may experience a slight reddening around the hair follicles following the treatment, which typically disappears within a short while. It is always recommended to avoid sun exposure or to use sunscreen following the laser treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TREATED HAIR?
Hair follicles affected by the laser are lifeless and your body will attempt to cast them off over a period of time. It will seem that the hair continues to grow for 1 or 2 weeks after the treatment, but in fact they are disengaged from the follicle and will easily fall out. You may notice some “bald patches” after the 3rd or 4th week, where the treated hair has been shed.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
The number of treatments required to obtain optimum results varies with hair density, hair color, skin type, the treatment area and your hair growth cycle. The density of your hair and its growth cycle may be affected by many things, such as your age, ethnic background, hormones or medication. Statistically, most people achieve satisfactory clearance with 5-6 treatment sessions. Some may require more or less sessions depending on the area of hair growth or a combination of the above mentioned factors.

Laser treatments impair the growth capacity of hair follicles when they are in an active growth cycle at the time of treatment. But all hair follicles are not active at the same time. Therefore depending upon the growth stage of the follicles when the treatment is applied, several treatments (4-8) within a few weeks will usually be required to obtain the desired effect.

WHAT DO I DO IN BETWEEN TREATMENTS?
If you are concerned about the hair that hasn’t fallen yet, you may shave or use a fine pair of scissors to trim any such facial or body hair.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
You would not be a good candidate for the Aurora laser hair removal if you fall into any of the following categories:

Have had recent sun exposure
Have tanned skin
Are hypersensitive to light in the near-infrared wavelength region
Take medication that is known to increase sensitivity to sunlight, such as Accutane or Gold Treatment Therapy
Have seizure disorders triggered by light
Have suspicious pigmented lesions

WHAT RESULTS MIGHT I EXPECT?

Microdermabrasion is a revolutionary method of exfoliating the epidermis. This safe, effective method of exfoliating is not new however, it has been popular in Europe for well over a decade. The typical system is composed of a compressor and a suction pump (vacuum) that works in unison to project sterile micro-crystals of aluminum-oxide onto the skin with variable intensity. The unit simultaneously vacuums the area to remove the exfoliated dead skin cells, leaving the skin instantly smoother.

Conditions that can benefit from Microdermabrasion therapy include:

Microdermabrasion is also safe for darker skinned individuals who are sometimes otherwise prone to pigment irregularities.

METHOD
Following a thorough cleansing of the skin, the hand-piece with sterilized tip will be precisely moved along the surface of the skin, exfoliating the skin cells, helping to even out the imperfections. Areas that require more attention will be concentrated on with additional passes. A rich moisturizer with a SPF of 15 will be applied following the treatment. Treatments are generally not uncomfortable. Therefore, no anesthesia will be required. A treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. Different areas of the body pose different challenges. The skin usually becomes slightly pink and warm following each treatment. That will often last only 5 - 15 minutes, but it can sometimes last up to 24 hours without any further complication.

FOLLOW-UP
Following your treatments, you will be encouraged to use advanced healing products at home, to enhance and maintain the results. You will also be advised not to apply any products that contain alpha, beta, or poly-hydroxy acids, L-ascorbic acid or Retin-A for at least 3 days.

RESULTS
While most patients will see results after their first treatment, a series of 4-6 or more treatments is recommended to obtain more significant and longer lasting results. Obviously, the condition of your skin will influence how many treatments you will require. How often you receive treatments will also depend on your personal preference and again, on the condition of your skin. Treatments may be repeated as often as every 7-10 days.

Glycolic Peel
Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular particle size, is the most potent of AHA’s and thus penetrates more effectively and deeply than any other AHA. For this reason, the Biophora Glycolic Peel is designed to target Element Exposed / Normal Aging skin conditions for patients who desire faster results. Available in 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% concentrations.

Salicylic Peel
Different from Glycolic or Lactic acids, Salicylic acid works within the deeper layers of the skin and is best suited for acneic skin. Salicylic acid is an antibacterial, oil soluble solution which is considered one of the best peels for relieving acne conditions.

Lactic Peel
Lactic acid is much larger in molecular size, cannot penetrate as fast or as deeply as Glycolic acid, and is considered a moisturizing agent. For these reasons, Lactic acid is best suited for people who require a less aggressive exfoliation and milder approach to skin rejuvenation. A gradual smoothing, brightening, and clearing of skin blemishes will be accomplished.

THE PROCEDURE
The skin is prepared (sometimes by chilling) and then sterilized with alcohol swabs. A very small amount of Botox is injected, very precisely, at several locations on the face, using a tiny micro needle. THE MECHANISM
When applied correctly, Botox blocks the normal nerve impulses that stimulate muscle contraction selectively. These muscles relax and the overlying skin remains smooth. The other unaffected muscles act in a normal fashion so that other typical facial expressions of thought and personality are virtually unchanged.

Botulinum toxin type A is a neuromuscular blocking agent that is produced by the obligate anaerobic bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The toxins exert their effect at the neuromuscular junction by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, producing a flaccid paralysis. It has been used safely and effectively for strabismus, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and other dystonias. Botulinum A toxin (BTX-A) is now used to treat hyper-functional facial lines, lines caused by the repeated forces generated by the muscles.

However, Botox does not affect lines that develop due to the degenerative aging process and/or sun damage. These other wrinkles are not related to facial muscle contractions per se. Rather, they reflect the changes in the basic skin composition and elasticity. Similarly, sagging skin is not affect by Botox.

What to expect during treatment
Dependent on the type of filler being used and the depth of application: areas may be numbed using a topical or injectable anaesthetic, to ensure your comfort. Acne Bluelight
